Q: How much would it cost to have new Valve guides and seats put in for a 1984 camaro?
How much would it cost to have new Valve guides and seats put in for a 1984 camaro? Or would it be cheaper to have them put whole new heads in?

A: Last time I had guides installed in OEM iron heads was about 5 years ago, Had bronze guides put in a set of old 327 double hump heads.

Price was $190 for the guides, hot tank clean heads, install guides and do a valve job. That was for both heads, all 16 guides

Q: What color do you think is best for a 1984 Camaro?
My uncle gave me his 1984 chevy camaro for my 17th birthday. It’s a sweet car!!!! But the paint on it has chipped off in many places. I was thinking of getting it painted something close to electric blue, but I was curious to know what other people thought. I mean, I know that certain colors fit certain cars, and I’m not the expert. I just wanted some more input, just for suggestions and ideas. Thanks everyone!

A: mustang red on a camaro? pfft. Go with blue and white stripes. A classic camaro look.

Q: how do you put a light bulb in the dome light of a 1984 camaro?
i have a 1984 camaro with a dome houseing and bought the bulbs but i think its missing something, becuase i cant see how you put them in…i got the right bulbs and everything, im just wondering is there a piece that connects to the house and for the bulbs to be in that gets put into the dome housing or something….?
o yeah, they have those map lights on it too….
and what is a dome house light reflector?

A: the dome light should have 2 metal tabs sticking out aprox 3 inches apart. You might have to been them in to hold the bulb

Q: How much is a 1984 Camaro Berlinetta worth?
It is a 1984 camaro 2.8 v6 engine with minimal rust. Needs a paint job nd thats it evry thing else seems good

A: A 1984 Camaro with the 2.8 V6, needing a paint job, is worth between $800-$1,500. If it’s a Berlinetta, it may be worth a couple hundred more. With minimal rust, I would start at $1,200, if the interior is in good condition, then $1,500. You’ll have a buyer soon with that price, these cars are getting harder and harder to find by the year.

Good luck selling it!

Q: Would a 1984 Camaro be considered a classic car in PA?
I was wondering if a 1984 Camaro would be considered a classic and therefore receive classical plates. I live in PA, also how do I get classical plates
well its 26 years old most states recognize vehicles 25 years old as classics

A: In most (if not all) states that have classic or collector license plates, the vehicle can only be legally used for occasional purposes such as driving to and from a car meet/show or similar use. They can not legally be used as “daily” drivers. I know this can be hard to enforce, but if you are unlucky and get pulled over by a unsympathetic officer, then it will result in a ticket.

Q: how can i mount my torque arm on my 1984 camaro?
i recently put a TH400 in my 1984 camaro and i cant seem to find any mounting stuff for the torque arm, i didnt take the old engine and tranny out because the car didnt come with one, i bought the bushing today because i figured it would come with everything i need but it doesnt, how can i mount my torque arm with buying a new crossmember made for somthing like this?

A: You put a th-400 in w/o using an aftermarket crossmember??? How did you get that one to work.

I have a th-400 in my third gen and can tell you the OEM ones comes no where close.. The 400’s mount is about 4.5″ back fruther than 700R4 that was stock. The crossmember to work has to be made off set. The places that bolt to the the chassis sits 4″ ahead of the place the trans bolts to on crossmember.

I used the hurst swap kit #550-0002, ($135) it comes with a crossmember, torque arm bracket that bolts to tail shaft of trans, then your torque arm mount and bushing bolts to it, vac line, etc

Needs a diff driveshaft, and conversion U joint to work aswell. I used a 1982-83 camaro/firebird driveshaft with 3speed auto trans..

Now a th-350 trans has close to same mount as 700r4. Are you sure yours aint a th-350? If it’s a th-350 trans B&M makes a bracket for the torque arm that bolts to tail shaft of trans. Runs around $90

Now if you really plan to mod yours alot I can tell you I ended up needing a better torque arm to get traction. I went with the jegster torque arm, that mounts to a plate that fits inside the driveshaft tunnel.. So the trans tail bracket wasnt needed any longer.

Heres a couple pics of that

Q: What is This 1984 Berlinetta Camaro worth?
I know a dealer that is selling a 1984 Berlinetta Camaro in great condition. I don’t know much about it except it has 305 HP, a V8, is black, and has 46,000 miles on it. They want $4,900 for it. Is that a good price or too much?

A: Considering that it has less than 50,000 miles on it, I would think that that is a good price. Im not too familiar with the price difference between the Berlinetta and any other V-8 Camaro, but a quick search on autotrader shows v-8 camaro’s from 1984 going for 6-10,000 bucks… Some were way more expensive, but they have been modified.
As long as it is in good condition I would say that is a good price… But a car that is 25 years old that only has 46,000 miles on it must not have been driven very much. So make sure you check it out, if it has been sitting in someone’s backyard for 10 years it could have rust problems, as well as mechanical issues.

Q: where can i find a 1984 camaro berlinetta blinker lever switch?
i just bought a camaro and the blinker lever switch has worn out. the one my car needs looks like a square black switch and not the ones that stick outtta the side of the steering wheel that are round. any help on where i can find one? my mechanic told me gm doesnt make them anymore soo any ideas?

A: junk yard!

Q: How dose the electronic advance work on my 1984 camaro. Do both vacum lines going in to the map sencor have to?
have vaccum on them. How do you tell if the map sensor is bad and or the nock sensor is working corectley. If you do have to have vaccum on both sides dose anybody now how much.

A: Right offhand that’s going to be a tough one to answer. You’ll find all your answers if you pick up both the Hayne’s and Chilton’s manuals for your specific model of car. It’ll give you everything you need to know to diagnose your sensors as well as a detailed breakdown of how all your car’s systems work individually and together. Usually sensor diagnosis is pretty easy, if they require vacuum, you put a vacuum pump to them for the specified amount and test resistance at certain terminals, the manuals will tell you what readings are within spec and which ones would indicate faulty parts. Hope this helps :)

Q: Where is the neutral safety switch located on a 1984 Camaro?
Where is it located, its a berlinetta if thay helps.

A: If man. trans it’s under the clutch pedal on the firewall

If it’s an auto transmission, Its on the side of the shifter. Remove the shift indicator plate off top of consol (need a T15 torx bit to remove those screws)

its on the left side of shifter.. Its a black plastic thing in the shape of a half circle, has a wiring plug on the back end of it with about 6 wires on it

Q: Does a 1984 camaro have anti-lock brakes?
Im looking around for my first car and found a 1984 camaro for only $1100! My mom won’t let me get it unless it has Anti-Lock brakes or ABS. Is there a way to tell?
I dont physically have the car which is why i need to know if it has them. Like were cars in 1984 made with them yet?

A: 2 ways, look under bonent for the big bulky box that all the brake lines go into and out of (the ABS modulator)
other way is to drive at 10 mph and suddenly jam the brakes on (when safe). abs will not lock wheels and the pedal will pulse and feel like a small animal is trapped under it

Q: Is there a computer system on a 1984 camaro?
There are wires to the carb. and i just wann aknow if you were to hook a comp system up to it if it would tell you if there was a faulty something for istance fuel mixture solenoid. Thats what the shop told me. that i have a bad fuel mixture solenoid. Ive never heard of it.

A: It is called an m/c solenoid. As in, mixture control. The computer normally only stores codes for inputs that are out of range. But if the solenoid is open or shorted, it may store a code for that as well. Personally, I never cared much for that type carb. I always installed a vacuum advance type distributor and a non-electronic carb, taking the computer totally out of the picture. They really really wake up at that point, the difference in performance is amazing. As long as your not in an emissions inspection county, those two things and a set of headers and duals will make it scream.

Q: Where can i get 1984 camaro belt buckles replacements for passenger and driver?
i only want the buckles part not the actaul belt.. because those work fine
and i cnt find them on google

A: what about the junk yard

Q: how many gallons of gas does my 1984 camaro berlinetta hold?
i just bought this as my first car a week ago and i was just wondering. it has a v8 and im not too sure how much gas the tank holds?

A: It’s either 15 or 18 gallons, I can’t remember for sure off the top of my head. I’m almost positive it’s 15 gallons

It sure as heck isn’t 21 gallons like one response said.

Q: Where might I find or purchase a plastic model of a 1984 Camaro?
I’m not sure the exact term, but I’m looking for a build-it-yourself model so that I can make it look precisely like the ‘84 Berlinetta that I used to drive.

A: try hobbylinc.com. they have all sorts of models
