Q: 1985 Camaro?
Where can i find an engine blueprint for the 1985 Camaro? or full car blueprints? any websites? thank you

A: It depends on what you’re callin a blueprint. I’ve got a few sites w/ alots of info on the third generation f-bodies.

Check out some of these sites.

Good luck!

Q: 1985 camaro?
what size muffler do i need for this car?
where can i get a door pin?

A: Door pins dealer item only, muffler (you probably have the two tailpipe muffler so its 2 1/2 inlet and 2 1/4 outlet. They make a flowmaster that fits perfect also for that car, I believe it’s an 80 series if I recall correctly.

Q: what can happen if you drive a 1985 camaro in the winter?
I want to get a camaro but i want a car the can drive all seasons but my dad has a truck that i can drive when there is to much snow.

A: it will turn into a pile of rust

Q: How do I remove and replace the starter in a 1985 Camaro?
It’s apparently out…But there’s stuff in the way preventing it from being removed.
The CROSSOVER is in the way.

A: sorry, when chey started down sizing the car but not the engines they didn’t have any idea where to put any space to work on things of that nature. If it is a 5.0 (305 cid) it will be hard cause its tucked in there real tigth. If you can get the car off the ground high enough so you can take the motor mount and trans mount pins out then you can drop the egine low enough to get it out from behind the exhaust manifold. Dont try to take the manifold off, the studs will snap. Good luck…

Q: How can I tell if my 1985 Camaro is a Z28 or an iroc?
I’m really not sure…There’re no decals or anything on it. I just know that it’s a 5.0 litre V8. Does it even make any difference?

A: Get the VIN number and run a check on it here:

Q: How much would it cost to replace all of the brake drums and pads in a 1985 Camaro?
I want to do it myself if it’s cheaper that way.

A: If you wanted to replace all 4 brakes and drums on the camero it will cost you.

$30.00 for all 4 brake shoes
$60.00 for all 4 brake drums.

It will cost you a lot more to have a shop do it. And it will take you about 3 hours if you’ve never done it before. There are tons of tutorials on how to do it.

Q: Is there any way to upgrade a Berlinetta 1985 Camaro with a V6 engine to a V8 engine?
If not, are there any other ways to make it run faster, get more HP, etc?

A: If you think it’s a drag changing plugs on the 2.8…..just wait.

Q: How much would it cost to have a muffler and door pin installed on a 1985 camaro?

A: Muffler. Around $100 Door pin.Under $20

Q: How difficult is it to swap an 1985 camaro 305 v8 into a 1965Chevy pickup?

A: good idea, here is why:
the 305 is a later model of the same engines, 283, available in the 65 chevy, and the parts should be available at the local “recycler’ or as we used to call it the junk yard…
If the 65 has a 6 banger, which is common in those years, and a manual trans, get the correct bellhousing for a v8, as the bolt pattern was different after 1962 for sixes and v8’s…get one for a hydraulic clutch if the 65 has one, (they came both ways) if it is a manual clutch(usually the half ton pickups), then get that type, there are only two choices, look at what you have to see what you need, it is a hassle to change them and they both work equally well
if you happen to have a v8 already in the 65, it will be a direct bolt in, so no problems with that, just make sure the crank is drilled for a pilot bushing, some which came in camaros are not drilled, if it is not, then you will need to drill that-my suggestion, DON’T-it requires dismantling the engine to do correctly, so if the 305 crank is not drilled, consider an engine/auto tranny swap instead-find a nice little t-350, just will make you life a whole lot easier
Because the 305 will be in a 65 frame, and exempt from smog in all but the most eco-repressed states, you do not have to worry about using the throttle body injection on the 305, or if it is an SS, the tpi, although these are great induction systems, the additional hassle factor of the computer wiring and so on is problematic, and beyond the scope of this forum-get a two barrel carb, with the stock 283 manifold, from 1964 through 1972, get a solid rebuild on the carb, get an after market ignition/distributor/wiring system for a sbc engine, or find a good points/coil/wiring system at the junk yard, and you have it made…

Q: i have a 1985 i-roc camaro and i want to race in the rockford speedway which category will i be in.?
i have an 1985 camaro and want to race in the Rockford speedway. what category will i be in and how old do u have to be.

A: None. Rockford does not allow Camaros. Trade it in on a Monte Carlo and build a Road Runner class car. Minimum age is 14. 14-17 year olds have to have a waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian.

Q: On an 1985 Camaro, what is the second D under the main one in the square on the shifter?
What gear is that? What’s it do?

A: The D inside of the square is overdrive. Think of it like fifth gear if you had a five speed manual, it’s basically the same thing. If you put it in overdrive your gas mileage will be improved.

There are a variety of reasons you don’t want be in Overdrive all the time, towing, keeping the trans from shifting in and out of OD at 40-45 mph travel, keeping the trans from shifting into OD in stop and go traffic, and keeping the RPM’s higher on your car when you drive through town so your pipes sound cooler. I’m sure there are even more detailed reasons why you would want to stay out of OD but I can’t think of any off the top of my head.

For the most part drive in OD if you are traveling at a steady 45+ MPH,and Drive in D if you are in stop and go traffic. If you obsess about your gas mileage and you think you may forget to switch back and forth than just drive in OD, it isn’t really a big deal if you aren’t towing anything.

Q: What to look for when buying a 1985 Iroc-Z Camaro?
I’m looking at a 1985 Iroc-Z Camaro. From what I’ve seen so far, it’s in good shape. I don’t see any rust. Are there any major problems I should look for?

A: I just bought a 83 z28 a couple months ago. built a motor and had alot of performance work done to it and I love the car. Um as far as what To look for If theres no rust you should be o.k. on the body. Does It have t tops? If so check and see if they leak. The might need new seals. Does It have a motor or tranny? And check and make sure that the convertors on the exhaust are flowing o.k. if it has any. they are bad about stoping up on them cars. Hope you like it.

Q: 1985 camaro trunk lid switch and radio stop working?
My son was driving the car last week and he said he heard what sounded like a pop in the dash and now the radio, trunk lid switch and the interior light don’t work. I changed the fuses and still don’t work. If anyone has any other idea please let me know thanks
No i didn’t try that but i will. my son said the pop noise came from the middle said of the dash right above where the radio is.

A: Tony has it right. Check the fuse panel for some hard metal fuse looking pieces.
One of them runs the above mentioned pieces.

Go to your local salvage yard to get one or two without spending 5.00 ea.

IF the stereo is aftermarket AND was installed by a non-pro, pull the stereo out of it’s hole and make sure that you do not have a short to ground issue.

Q: My 1985 Camaro is leaking around the manifold …..?
I’m not a mechanic but …. it looks like my 1985 camaro ( 6 cyl ) engine is leaking at the manifold …. where it connects to the exhaust system…..

Can this be fixed by just taking off the two bolts and slipping in a new gasket ? DOes the piping have to be disassembled or can you seperate it enough to get a new gasket in there ????

A: i own a shop, and you can separate it to get a new one in it,just soak the bolts real good with some wd-40 to help loosen them up,and it shouldn’t be too hard of a job to do,good luck with it,hope this helps.

Q: 1985 Chevy Camaro Iroc, instrument panel troubles. Is anyone familiar with the instrument panel on a?
1985 Chevy? I bought the car as a hobby to bring it back up to top condition. The transmission and engine are still good. The problem I am having is that from the start the speedometer and the tachometer never worked, the speedometer does nothing and the tech is pegged to one side. Oil pressure still reads as well as fuel but the coolant temperature stop reading. Does this sound like a problem with the sensors, the computer or the panel itself. I found a digital panel at Summit for $475 range but need to know the best way to troubleshoot this before spending a lot of money for the incorrect problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!!

A: In ‘85 the computer didn’t have anything to do with the gauges, so rule that out..

The speedo is cable driven, so check all of that out. It’s not un heard of a speedo cable to break, or the lube/oil in it dry up and cable not turn.

Next the speedo/cable is driven from 2 plastic gears in the side of transmission’s tail shaft.. So it could be possible for the plastic gears to strip out over time…

The tach works off of the ing. system.. In fact it hooks to the neg side of the coil… In ‘85 you have a large cap HEI dizzy… Look on driver’s side of dizzy.. You will se a square sticking off the cap.. It will have one long plug, and 2 small plugs on the under side of that square..

The front rear plug is the 12 volt hot wire, it’s marked “BATT”, then next to it will be one marked “TACH” That is where your tack wire hooks… Check your connection, and cond. of that wire..

Water temp sounds like the sender is bad, or not grounding good, or the wire on sender is off/broke, etc.. These senders/holes are pipe thread (tapered fitting) Most people will put teflon tape or something on them to “seal” them, but thats not needed as the fitting is larger as the threads goes up.. With sealer on the threads, it could cause a bad ground between sender and the threaded hole..

Now those digital gauge panels your talking about is NICE.. I have one in my 1988 camaro and love it.
Here’s a couple pics of mine for you

The speedo in them is elec, so you have to buy the sensor.. It screws onto trans in place of your stock cable, then has 2 wires on it that you run up to the speedo and hook up.

As you can see, you still use your stock cluster, just remove OEM gauges and put the digital panel in place of them..
