Q: Is a 1986 camaro z28 supposed to have a schroud?
I have a 1986 camaro z28 with a 305 engine, is there supposed to be a schroud on the radiator?

A: yes.

Q: How much would it cost to paint a 1986 camaro?
Okay, so im thinking about buying a 1986 camaro and its all ready to be painted it just needs the paint. A close family member could paint it for me but i would have to buy the paint.. Could you tell me what it would cost to paint it either black or candy apple red?

A: You will need a gallon of paint, some harder, and some reducer, for a basic paint job. Get a single stage urethane (avoid enamel). $250 should do it. Better quality paints or a base and clear-coat job will be more.

Q: Is there a 1986 camaro ss true dual exhaust?
Is there a 1986 camaro ss true dual exhaust? Or will i have to make my own?

A: Ya no ss in the third gens. Anyway no one makes a true dual kit for a third generation camaro. And my suggestion is to not go with doing it yourself or having anyone fab up one up. Why? Because there is really nowhere to mount a muffler under there and I can almost guarantee that after a while it will start to hang low and eventually will start to drag. The single system flows just as good as a dual will and it will all tuck up nice and neat. SLP makes an excellent system but so do flowmaster and magna flow. Just depends on how much you want to spend. Hope this helps.

Q: Is there a K&N Industries Air Intake System that can be installed on a 1986 Camaro Z28?
Not the air filters. A tube that I can lead into my throttle body. It’s a 1986 Camaro Z28, Tuned Port Injection, 5.0 Liter, 305 C.I. Engine.
I was told these will provide better engine sound. Is that true?

A: This kit is the best out there.

Induction noise will be somewhat higher in decibel. An open air element will create the loudest noise but then you sacrifice all that gain because now you are pulling in hot underhood air as opposed to cool air being drawn in from the fender openings.

Q: questions about air shocks 1986 camaro Z28?
I am planning on getting ait shocks for my 1986 camaro Z28 and was wondering what do they average new and what is the top brands?

A: I bought mine a few years ago from Mopar and the kit cost around $500.00.That included the shocks, leveling switch lines and compressor. Do not buy the ones you fill manually. You will have a tendency to overfill the shocks with the danger of bursting the air bag. You are in for a lot of work but the end result is you’ll love the ride because your car is level all the time regardless of the wieght in the rear, ie passengers and luggage. Just phone your local jobbers and get a parts price and have a ball Try your local auto wreckers and maybe find a car like yours with a good compressor and leveling switch then you will only have to buy the shocks and lines new. If you’re thinking of doing this to put a rake on ur car (raising the rear end) don’t because your shocks will be over full all the time a will burst prematurly.

Q: I need to find a 1986 Chevrolet Camaro engine!?
I live in St. Petersburg FL and our Camaro needs a new engine. I have looked but I can’t really find any engines for sale. My dad says we might have to sell the car (for like $100) . I really don’t want to sell the car, it’s pretty awesome and everyone likes it. Its a 1986 Camaro IROC-Z. It has a V6 engine currently. I already tried google but I can’t find anything.
Nevermind, it doesn’t have a V6.

A: look on craigslist or a junkyard.

Q: How Do I make a sub box for a 1986 camaro?
I have 2 12 inch memphis subs that I neet to build a box for. I am planning on building myself but I need to where to put the box and how to build it for that space and how to port and all the good stuff, I also am going to put in the trunk and need custom plans for that. dont care about the t tops.
10 POINTS!!

A: measure out the space you want and use plywood and carpet cut holes in the box and there you go just start woking and it will all come together

Q: What kind of transmission can I put on my 1986 Camaro iroc 350 tpi?
I have a 86 iroc with a 350 tuned port injection with a 700r4 transmission right now but i want to give my car more power something like 500+ hp but it wont have that much power immediatly and i want to know what options i have and where i could find them?

A: A 700r4 transmission is plenty.

If you had done some research, you would have found that these transmissions can be built to handle 750+.

Search next time.

Q: how does a wiring harness on a 1986 camaro hook to the firewall?
found the location where it hooks in, but can’t figure out how to unhook it?

A: there is usually one bolt in the center that holds it on! Then it slides straight out!

Q: Will a 1986 Z28 Camaro starter work on a 1988 Pontiac Firebird?
Will a 1986 Z28 Camaro with a V8 engine starter work for a 1988 Pontiac Firebird with a V6 engine.

A: No, it should not. If you really want to know, go to advance auto parts web site and look up the camaro starter. At the bottom of the page or with associated parts they put a listing of all the vehicles that use the same part.

Q: how to install a muffer on a 1986 camaro car?
I want to buy a new muffer and want to know if I can install it myself.

A: Sure you can replace it. All you need is a way to cut the old one out and the tools to put the new one in. With the right tools it should take you about an hour or so. GOOD LUCK!!

Q: How can I fix my 1986 Camaro hood louver?
I took it off and most of the studs just snapped. I have two bolts now and all the studs are broken in half. Could I glue it? I cannot afford to buy a new one, so what is the best way to re-use this one?
Thanks

A: If you do glue it, use a clear silicon (RTV). It won’t damage the paint and is water/weatherproof.

Q: how much horsepower does a stock 1986 camaro z28 with 305?
i have one of these and wondering how much hp it would have
would tuned port injection make any difference?

A: It doesn’t sound right but it’s true. The 305’s of that year had 215HP. The ‘87 Z28 had the return of the 350 but it only produced 225HP. The 80’s performance numbers were bad in all cars because of the EPA. They didn’t have the technology to produce high horsepower motors with low smog ratings like they do today.
—-TPI wont make much of a difference, you still have a smog motor. You would have to throw bucks at that car to make some power. Heads, Cam, Gears. Easily over 3grand in parts and labor. Your best bet if you want to keep that car is to buy a crate motor. I would only throw money at that car if it is in nice shape. If the body is wavy, and everything on the car is slowly falling apart, I wouldn’t waste any more money on the car. I would buy a newer car. Good luck.

Q: Can someone tell me where the best place would be online to sell a 1986 camaro in impecable condition in NC?
I live in charlotte and need to find a place online to get this camaro sold and out of my yard btu dont know where. will someoen please help me? thanks, Lisa

A: Try Hemmings motor news. They are national and have a print/online publication. It typically caters to most of the non-commodity transportation cars….classic, speciality, custom, collector.

Otherwise just try the simplest and run an ad in your local paper. Some local papers also upload your ad to cars.com as well for no additional fee.

Q: What size is the air cleaner lid on a 1986 camaro?
i’m going to buy a chrome one to replace the original, just wondering what the size is. I read 15 3/8, 15 1/2, and 15 11/32, which are all about the same.
any help is appreciated

A: Just make sure that anything you buy will clear the air horn on the carb. the most common are the 14 inch round chrome air cleaner assemblies. Go with the tallest air filter that will clear under the hood of your car. The more air flow into the carb without restriction will add the most power to the engine.

good luck……..
