Q: How much should it cost to install a rebuilt engine in a 1987 Camaro Z28?
My son has a 1987 Camaro Z28 (auto transmission) with a bad engine that can’t be repaired. I’m wondering what it should cost to have the current engine removed and rebuilt 350 engine installed. I have a price of $1,600 from a mechanic who has good references to remove the engine, rebuild a 350 engine from an existing block and install the rebuilt engine. Is this a reasonable price? What type of guarantee on parts and labor would be reasonable?
A: That actually sounds like a pretty good price if it includes parts for the rebuild. I think 1 year warranty is good enough on a rebuilt engine.

A: I don’t know about the area you live in, but I live in Mississippi, and did mechanic work for thirteen years. To do what you are asking with me supplying the block would have run you about $1500 plus parts. I gave a one year, 10,000 mile warrenty as long as the customer provided reciepts showing he done regular maintenance such as oil changes on it. I gave him a schedule to follow which varies depending on the mechanic who rebuilds the engine. I recommended oil changes at 500, 1000, 2000, 3000, then every 3000 after that.
Q: Can i convert a 1987 Camaro V6 to a Camaro 350 V8 Motor?
I just bought a 1987 Chevy Camaro LT that has a bad V6 engine in it. I was wondering if it would be possible to just put a nice 350 V8 under the hood instead of rebuilding the V6 that it comes with. If it is possible, would i have to do any modifications under the hood at all? If so, what would i need to do?
A: 1. the motor mounts probably need changed.
2. the computer and sensors probably need changed.
3. the exhaust connections probably need changed.
4. if electric fuel pump system… that would need to be changed for a low pressure mechanical pump system for a 4 barrel carburetor…
5. front coil springs if the car is too saggy from a lightweight v-six banger set up…
6. if clutch linkage is needed for a manual tranny might be problematic…
7. bigger larger flow radiator…
Does this help any?
Q: How much would a paint job cost for a 1987 camaro?
I have a 1987 Iroc-Z Camaro and its needs a paint job can anyone find out how much it would cost for a new one??
A: It’s impossible to tell you a cost. There are WAY too many variables. Does the car need ANY body work? What kind of paint do you want? Are you keeping the same color? Are you doing the engine bay and door jambs?
There’s a million questions to answer. If you want cheap, Maaco, 600-800 bucks.
For a GOOD paint job done right…2-3K + depending on everything you need.
Q: How much would painting a 1987 Camaro cost?

Q: how do you find the proper plug combination for a 1987 Chevy camaro?
how do you find the proper plug combination for a 1987 Chevy camaro?
A: Forget after market foreign plugs for this car. It was designed for Delco parts. Get the Delco parts catalog at the local parts store and look up your engine under 1987 Chevrolet. Buy 6 or 8 plugs depending on the engine. Get Delco plug wires too.
Q: How to install side skirts for a 1987 camaro?
i have an 87 camaro and the side skirts.. and i believe the require drilling into the door and underpanel of the door BUT… im not going to drill and then have someone tell me there is another way… so before i do it..can anyone help?
A: Bart if your talking about a body kit for your camaro most of these kits do not require drilling holes in the body. The kits ive helped install in the past are held on by clips in the fender wells to hold the front and rear of the kit and special two way adhesion tape from 3M.The tape used is a gray colored tape that holds like steel.Once this tape is installed it holds the kit tight to the body and also seals the back side of the kit so water and salt cant get behind the kit and cause damage to the car body.Bart you can also talk to your local chevy dealers body shop or local trim shop for some hints.Best of luck.
Q: What other cars interior are compatible with a 1987 Chevy Camaro Iroc z28?

Q: How do I remove the back seats in my 1987 Camaro?
My Camaro sat for a while and collected a little mold. In order to properly clean the seats I need to figure out how to remove the back seats. Anybody know how to remove the back seat cushion and back rest, im assuming its a two part method, please help me, the more detailed information the better
thanks in advance
A: In newer cars they have clamps that are released by pulling a lever. In the older models, they had slots that the seat slid into and bolts. The back of the seat should be dropped into slots and have 2 bolts holding the top toward the edges. The bottom part should be slid into slots at the back and have 2 bolts that hold it on the front floor board.
Hope this helps and good luck

I just bought this car, and it is a beauty. But the front bucket seats need to be re-upholstered. How much do you think it would cost to get them done in leather? What can I expect to pay to have them re-upholstered cheaply? Please advise, fellow Yahooists. I don’t want to get ripped off!

Q: 1987 camaro IROC Z Question about transmission?
I just bought a 1987 camaro iroc with a 350 engine, auto transmission, the car has been sitting for a couple years without being driven. Supposidly the car drives fine. I just got it running and took it for a spin. The transmission didnt shift into 3rd gear or overdrive. Atleast the rpms were goin up very high like 4000 rpm. I would think it isnt shifting. The fluid is very clean. Is there an additive i can put in the trans to help get it working, or do you think that it wont come back. Is this expected for a car sitting like this ?Please reply
thanks , Neil
A: Sounds to me like time for a rebuild on the transmission. That’s probably why it was parked(the “clean” fluid may have been their attempt to fix the transmission problem)! You also may want to check the adjustment on the detent cable. If it is off, you can burn up clutch discs within a matter of 10-15 miles (I found this out the hard way on my 1992 C-1500)
Q: i recently just bought a 1987 camaro, any tips on what to do to supe it up? Performance wise.?
A discription of what the part is and what it will do, would be greatly appreciated.
A: It depends on what kind of motor you have. Because from 1982-1987 most of them came with 305s. Later they put the 350s in. Now 305s aren’t known for power. They’re granny motors, but if you have a 305 TBI (throttle body induction) there is a kit available through Edelbrock. It allegedly gives them 435 hp.
Q: Anyone know where I can Purchase a complete interior kit for my 1987 Camaro Z28?
The interior is red and I would like to change it to Grey or Black.
A: Google National Parts Depot. They have TONS of product at pretty good prices. If you ever need any body panels I suggest you go there because most of there stuff fits like the original.
