Q: What transmissions will fit a 1993 Camaro V6 3.4L?
I recently ran into problems with my transmission slipping, and now it will not go into drive. I figured it was probably time to find a new transmission, but I am not sure if I can only use a transmission from a Camaro, or will any other car work? Please help me, and if you know of a used one for sale, please contact me =)
Thanks
It is a 4L60E.

A: If your looking for a new trans you might wanna check out craigslist.org and see what you can find.
But the major problem with that is most ppl sell theres because it’s in horrible condition soo you’d be better off finding a local trans shop like LeeMyles and bringing it there.

Q: Is this a good price for a used car: 10k dollars for a 2000 Trans Am?
Hello, I am looking at this car at a used dealership. It is a 2000 black Trans Am (v8) and it is for sale for 10k dollars. It has a nice paint job and t tops. The car is low mileage with 70k miles.

I currently am driving a 1999 v6 Camaro with t tops so I am used to driving Fbody cars and like them.

Is this a good price or is too much/too little?
I live i NYC, so it’s not like you find these Fbody cars all over the place.

A: It’s a little too much for it. Unless they did a lot of upgrades or some modifications to it.

Q: Hello..this might be a guy question..but my hubby has a 2001 Camaro…?
he used to have a 6 speed trans am with an LS1 and everything it was suped up and sweet. It was just undescribable. But anyways he now has this V6 and we have agreed to keep this because of gas prices right now..(long story why he doesnt have trans am anymore) but he did see it for sale the other day his old one and went back by the next day cause he wanted it back and it had been totaled the night before. So his hopes and dreams are crushed. This was his baby!! So anyways he has a 2001 chevy camaro now that we paid off already and he really wishes he could do some things to it..even knowing it will not compare to an LS1 but i was thinking for father’s day i wanted to help him and he really wants a hood…one with like a scoop i guess like his trans am did not near as big tho. But my question is where do i find one for a reasonable price. i checked craigslist and ebay and didnt really have any luck..so any suggestions….
yes he has a V6 and I want him to have this hood.. i think they look good whether or not its a ss or z28 but he gave up his dream car for ME…and OUR SON…like i said it was a very long story but he did it for us not himself..he was actually very selflish on that move…it showed a lot that he had really grown up alot to get rid of a car like that to get a family car for me..now i have the brand new SUV that we all fit in and he has the V6. but at least we both have cars if he would have kept it we would have had to try to fit a baby in the back seat of a car that you could hear coming down the street a few miles away and that had a system in it..he did what was best for our newborn…so i would like to do something nice for him since he obviously loves cars!

A: Your not really gonna find one cheap.. $400-600 is norm price.

Does he want the trans am style hood with the 2 scoops that looks like noses (ram air style)

Or the camaro SS style with the one center scoop.

You can get both of those for the camaro along with a bunch od other types/styles

Theres always 2 types of ram air hoods.. Ram air I and ram air II. The RA II has larger more curved scoops.

Q: I’m going to buy a car without a title?
Okay, here is the whole story. I live in Yakima,Wa.
I’m buying this 1982 Camaro 305 4bbrl. This older guy about 55 is selling me this car which was giving to him without a title. The guy that had it before him got the car from a lady in Oregon, and he was just going to use the Camaro as a race car so he never got the title transfered in his name, and he lost it. I know of people apply for lost title in Washington and got it, but the title probably still in Oregon. I’m now wondering can the older guy write me out a Bill Sale and should I just tell the DMV the whole story to get the title or I’m I going to contact the lady in Oregon? Oh, btw I’m guessing the lady from Oregon because the plates are from Oregon and tabs are dated back at 03. I know the car not stolen because I ran it. I’m going to tow the car to my house on Wednesday, because the manual shifter is broken but an easy fix. Is there any ideas on how to get this title or what should I do any advice would be great?

P.S. Don’t say not buy it, 350 a good deal but I’m willing to get this title some how.

A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here – carquotes.fateback.com

Q: Is it possible to sale a car that i just bought?
We bought it from the dealership it is a used 2007 Pontiac g6 gt. I was thinking that i would be able to afford it, but it’s not working out, and i wanted to know how i can either sell it or something…can i do that. I was thinking i could trade it in for something cheaper, is that something i can do?
I saw a car driving down the street today that was a white camaro that was $3,900 and i could buy that right now in cash but i need to somehow get rid of the pontiac.
Thanks in Advance!!
Oh i purchased it in August of this year, and started payments on it in september.

A: Find out what you owe from the bank. Put it for sale on
autotrader.com or cars.com or your newspaper. Trading down
is not something you wanna do, dealers know your in a bind
and will rip you off, more than usual. You may have to sell
for a little loss, but you can make it up by buying your next
car dirt cheap!

Q: What should I do to get a good used car?
My old car is officially down for the count, so I’m looking for a new car. What are some tips on finding a good new car? I’m on a tight budget, at max I might reach $3,000 if my parents match my money before I need the car.
Where should I look, and what are some tips to see if it’s a good deal, or if there’s something they aren’t telling me? Also if you know a site whre I can search for some specifics I’d like to see it.
Also, any good car choices? I want a stick, but I’ll take an automatic and I want a car, but I’ll take a truck. Other than that all I really care about is that it’s pretty fast, and accelerates well. I know all the obvious ones, camaro, mustang etc., I’m asking for original ones.
If you have an El Camino for sale in Kansas e-mail me, it’s my dream car!

A: It should be 4-door, 4-cyls, not sporty. I would prefer Honda or Toyota… First time drivers usually have much more expensive car insurance, and it depends from car. You should compare insurance rates while choosing the car – for example here – carinsurance.yoll.net

Q: Camaro transmition swap auto to manual?
I have been looking at fourth gen camaros for a while and i am unable to find any for sale with a manual trans. I was looking more at the 1993-1997 Camaros with the LT1 engine. I was wondering if i could easily swap a manual transmition into it. Would it just require swappting the trans and axle, or do i have to change other things to make it work. Also if i decided to do this, would i have to use a V8 transmission, or could i use a V 6 manual. I have found sevral camaros with V6 and 5 speeds, so if i cant swap the gearbox, i might buy a v6 and supercharge it or something. Which do you thing would be cheaper, swap maunal trans into a LT1, or supercharge a V6? Also is the LS1 a lot better than the LT1? I’ve always liked the design of the LT1 camaros more than the LS1s.

So my main question is how hard would it be the swap the trans from auto to manual on a LT1 camaro. Any other questions you answer would be appreciated, but not necessary.

A: ok first off, Tyler M, shut up, your full of crap kid grow up. and yes it would be a big deal. the newer style transmissions(i know atleast in the ls1 not sure about lt1) are electronic, even the manuals. they have electronic shift gates, like 1st to 4th shifting for gas mileage purposes and the reverse lockout. and you will have to do some mods for the pedals and do some wiring for the neutral safety switch and reverse lights to work with the manual tranny. you wont have to touch the rearend at all, only change the driveshaft. the 6speed transmission alone is almost going to cost you as much as a cheap camaro is, then all the fabricating and time spent really isnt worth it. just wait for the right car to pop up. hopes this helps.

Q: does anybody find this as funny as i did?
This is for all of you who occasionally have a really bad day, and you just need to take it out on someone! Don’t take that bad day out on someone you know, take it out on someone you don’t know!
Now get this. I was sitting at my desk, when I remembered a phone call I had to make. I found the number and dialed it. A man answered nicely saying, “Hello?” I politely said, “This is Bobby Carpenter and could I please speak to Melissa Lewis?”

Suddenly the phone was slammed down on me! I couldn’t believe that anyone could be that rude. I tracked down Melissa’s correct number and called her. She had transposed the last two digits incorrectly. After I hung up with Melissa, I spotted the wrong number still lying there on my desk. I decided to call it again. When the same person once more answered, I yelled “You’re a jackass!” and hung up. Next to his phone number I wrote the word “jackass,” and put it in my desk drawer.

Every couple of weeks, when I was paying bills, or had a really bad day, I’d call him up. He’d answer, and I’d yell, “You’re a jackass!” It would always cheer me up.

Later in the year the phone company introduced caller ID. This was a real disappointment for me, I would have to stop calling the jackass. Then one day I had an idea. I dialed his number, then heard his voice, “Hello.”

I made up a name. “Hi. This is the sales office of the telephone company and I’m just calling to see if you’re familiar with our caller ID program?”

He went, “No!” and slammed the phone down.

I quickly called him back and said, “That’s because you’re a jackass!”

The reason I took the time to tell you this story, is to show you how if there’s ever anything really bothering you, you can do something about it. Just dial 402-8863.

——————————————————————————–
An old lady at the mall really took her time pulling out of the parking space. I didn’t think she was ever going to leave. Finally, her car began to move and she started to very slowly back out of the slot. I backed up a little more to give her plenty of room to pull out. Great, I thought, she’s finally leaving.
All of a sudden this black Camaro comes flying up the parking aisle in the wrong direction and pulls into her space. I started honking my horn and yelling, “You can’t just do that, Buddy. I was here first!”

The guy got out of his Camaro completely ignoring me. He walked toward the mall as if he didn’t even hear me. I thought to myself, This guy’s a jackass. There are sure a lot of jackasses in the world. I noticed he had a “For Sale“ sign in the back window of his car. I wrote down the number. Then I hunted for another place to park.

A couple of days later, I’m at home sitting at my desk. I had just gotten off the phone after calling 402-8863 and yelling, “You’re jackass!” (It’s really easy to call him now since I have his number on speed dial.) I noticed the phone number of the guy with the black Camaro lying on my desk and thought I better call this guy too. He answered the phone and said, “Hello.” I said, “Is this the man with the black Camaro for sale?”

“Yes, it is.”

“Can you tell me where I can see it?”

“Yes, I live at 1802 West 34th street. It’s a yellow house and the car’s parked right out front.”

I said, “What’s your name?”

“My name is Don Hansen.”

“When’s a good time to catch you, Don?”

“I’m home in the evenings.”

“Listen Don, can I tell you something?”

“Yes.”

“Don, you’re a jackass!” And I slammed the phone down.

After I hung up, I added Don Hansen’s number to my speed dialer. For a while things seemed to be going better for me. Now when I had a problem I had two jackasses to call. Then, after several months of calling the jackasses and hanging up on them, it just wasn’t as enjoyable as it used to be.

I gave the problem some serious thought and came up with a solution: First, I had my phone dial Jackass #1. The man answered nicely saying, “Hello.”

I yelled “You’re a jackass!”, but I didn’t hang up.

The jackass said, “Are you still there?”

I said, “Yeah.”

He said, “Stop calling me.”

I said, “No.”

He said, “What’s your name, pal?”

I said, “Don Hansen.”

He said “Where do you live?”

“1802 West 34th Street. It’s a yellow house and my black Camaro’s parked out front.”

“I’m coming over right now, Don. You’d better start saying your prayers.”

“Yeah, like I’m really scared, Jackass!” and I hung up.

Then I called Jackass #2. He answered, “Hello.”

I said, “Hello, Jackass!”

He said, “If I ever find out who you are…”

“You’ll what?”

“I’ll kick your butt.”

“Well, here’s your chance. I’m coming right over, Jackass!” And I hung up.

Then I picked up the phone and called the police. I told them I was at 1802 West 34th Street and that I was going to kill my gay lover as soon as he got home.

Another quick call to Channel 13 about the gang war going down on W. 34th Street. After that I climbed into my car and headed over to 34th Street to watch the whole thing.

Glorious! Watching two jackasses beating the crap out of each other in front of siz squad cars and a police helicopter was one of the greatest experiences of my life!
i didnt actually do this, i found the joke off the internet. i’m not that crazy.
I SAID THAT I DIDNT DO IT I JUST FOUND THE JOKE OFF THE INTERNET! I DONT MEAN TO BE RUDE. BUT I HAVE THE CAPS ON MY ACCIDENT

A: My husband will have a good laugh, he loves mean fun too. Now he won’t beat me for being on here all day. JUST JO-SHIN. Thanx for the funny.

Q: Is the 305 TPI worth modding or not?
First I apologize for my english since I am from europe..

Well here is my question, I recently found a 1992 camaro (25th anniversary) automatic with a 305 v8 TPI engine.. rated at 207HP

car need some work (front seats to replace, the cooling fan also has ben bypassed to start manually since probably have some issues) and the exhaust is rubbish..

but everything else looks in good shapes, suspension brakes etc..

while test driving it i’ve noticed that is not particulary fast considering is a V8 with “only” 140.000 miles, should I consider to get it and use a rebuild kit with some mods to upgrade the engine.. and maybe put some higher gears rear end?? or maybe put a supercharger on the original engine??

or should I just think of trash the old engine and put a crate 350 in it leaving standard gear ratios??

I don’t need a dragster but I would like it to have some guts when accelerating.. like it is now it’s just no match for even most of the modern 4 bagers around..

any suggestions? (the car It’s for sale at like 7000 dollars from the guy wich is kinda cheap for it’s current good condition)
@edit.. about the price, this is the “best shape” camaro I’ve found here in my country, and price range (even for “rotten” ones) here are between 4000$ (for 2.8liter) to 15.000$ for v8 models.. probably due to the fact thar are quite hard to find..

A: The thing is you all ready have the 305 and theres plenty out there to make it do what ever you want. With 140 on it you would have to rebuild it They have top end kits from mield to wiled for your 305.They make 8 second 4 cylinders. All up to you.
Its not how fast you want to go.
It’s how fast you can aford to go.

Q: Chevrolet Monte Carlo production to end in June?
General Motors has confirmed production of its Monte Carlo coupe will end early this summer. The last orders will be taken in early May, and assembly at Canada’s Oshawa plant will stop on June 20th.

Thanks to a model update and new V8 engine, sales of the front-wheel-drive Monte Carlo were up slightly in 2006, but fell significantly early this year (down 60 percent in January). GM expects the 2008 Malibu to cut into potential Monte Carlo sales further, making now a good time to axe the coupe.

While GM hasn’t commented on the future of the nameplate, product chief Bob Lutz said in March GM’s new rear-wheel-drive Zeta platform would be used for a new Monte Carlo, along with the upcoming Camaro, Impala, GTO, and Buick Statesman (now believed to be on hold). At the time, Lutz also said a new El Camino was possible — a proposal that is gaining steam, according to recent reports.

http://www.leftlanenews.com/chevrolet-monte-carlo-production-to-end.html

A: they are just stopping production so they can change over the plant from the w-body to the new zeta platform. the large coupe will be built off that platform once everything is back up and running.
the new platform is rwd again also.

Q: Why is it somehow “wrong” to make a car salesman play by your rules when making a purchase?
My boyfriend of 6 months went with me to look at a 2006 Ford Mustang at a dealership today. He says it was “wrong” for me to make the salesman treat me a certain way and play by my rules.

Here’s a little background on me; I’m a 38 year old woman and have been an ASE certified auto mechanic for 18 years. I’m part owner of the shop my dad founded in 1980 and I serve as the general manager in charge of 10 mostly male employees so I’m used to getting respect. Although, if you ask any of my guys, I’m not an evil slave driver, I’m really cool about a lot of stuff. They just know they better show the utmost respect to customers and don’t do anything dishonest. Whenever I go to buy anything big I like to keep the upper hand with the salesperson, unless its a private party sale where there’s never any need to anyway. This is also the first time I’ve ever really dealt with a car dealer on a sales basis before; I usually drive whatever the shop is selling for unpaid mechanic’s liens (I’m a single mom of 4; 1 in college, 1 in the Air Force and 2 at home and I don’t make THAT much) but I just paid off my house (after 15 years) and I want something nice for once. I’ve saved for years for a newer car.

Well, when we went into the dealership the salesman I talked to immediately tried to steer me towards buying a new Focus, a car I wouldn’t buy if my life depended on it. I told him that I was only interested in the Mustang and unless he had an older Camaro or Firebird in good shape (for possible restoration) on his back lot, I wasn’t interested in anything else. He then proceeded to call me “Missy” which I HATE being called. I may be female and reasonably attractive but “Missy” sounds like something you would call a little girl. My name is Sandra Elizabeth and the guys who work for me address me as various forms of those names (I’m not picky, one tech jokingly calls me Lizzie Macguire because I look like an older Hilary Duff and it doesn’t bother me a bit) but would never, ever call me Missy and expect to keep their jobs. I told the salesman that if he wanted to earn a sale from a cash buyer he’d better address me as ma’am or by my name, take me to the car I wanted to see, not try to sell me anything else and keep his comments to himself while I inspected the vehicle unless I asked him a question. I even explained to him that I am a mechanic and I know exactly what I’m looking for (and probably a lot more about cars than he does) so his comments would be useless anyway. My rules with salesmen are basically show me respect, don’t lie to me and let whatever you’re selling sell itself. He wouldn’t keep his mouth shut and kept treating me like a kid so I walked off and directly into the manager’s office and explained to him that I didn’t like the way the salesman treated me and that if I didn’t get a full apology from him I was not going to purchase the car. The manager called the sales guy in and it sounded like he was getting a major talking to. The manager came out, apologized for the salesman and handled the details of the sale for me.

My boyfriend says that I was too rough on the guy and I should have just let him do what he was doing. I’ll admit that I am one tough cookie; who wouldn’t be after raising 4 kids on their own and managing a shop full of men? I just felt I deserved reasonable respect. When I sell lien cars I basically leave the potential buyer alone until they have a question; its less intimidating particularly for inexperienced buyers. I want them to feel comfortable with me because if they do, they might use my shop in the future.

A: I’m going to skip your ridiculously long explanation.

I saw a few key words, like that you’re a mom with a kid in the Air Force, and a few other things that don’t matter in the slightest to your question. Which tells me you want people to know a lot about you. Because you feel it’s relevant.

It’s not.

To answer the simple question of why it’s not fair to make them play by your rules: Because you’re being damned selfish and full of yourself, is why.

They’re not “sales people”. They’re human beings, just like you, trying to make a living. They have certain quotas to meet, and certain rules that have been instructed to them by their bosses.

More than likely, he is NOT going to get spoken to. Instead, he’s going to be told that you were just “one of those customers”, and to not worry about it.

So you’re a mechanic? So? What do you do when a customer comes into your shop, and tells you how to run things? And expects you to do things their way, instead of your way?

I’m going to guess you’d bitch about that too.

Q: 1974 ‘Cuda Project Value?
I just bought a project 1974 Plymouth ‘Cuda(performance package barracuda) and want to know what its worth.

To start, I dont have a title. The last titled owner is now in prison for who knows how long and his kids lost the title in a house fire. They sold the car to the guy I bought it from with a bill of sale. I recieved a bill of sale as well. I have checked and the car isnt stolen or anything, and was last registered in 2004, so everything appears to check out. I am working on getting a bonded title.

Condition-Pretty much everything there. except the rear valance. All glass is good and rolls up and down fine, the drivetrain is there and believed to the the original 318 and auto tranny, so probably numbers matching. Supposedly runs when the carb and distributor wires are put back on…There is a little rust in the trunk and in a few spots in the floors, but it wont need full floors, probably just footwell patches needed. Trunk is maybe saveable, maybe not. The interior isnt nice by any means, but it would be pretty decent with new carpet and front seat covers and headliner.

It needs some body work. Not too rusty of a car, but it was hit in the rear. Looks to have only damaged the tail panel and rear crossmember and that little filler panel in between them. I have a near perfect new back bumper with it. Also, the driver quarter will probably need a lower patch and the passenger will either need a skin or lower patch depending on how bad the dents are… Front passenger fender is perfect, and the driver would be if the softball sized dent was taken out of it. The hood may need replacing, as it is a little wrinkled but I think its possibly saveable. If not, I will go buy another one for $300. Its the snorkel hood. The doors are just about perfect, and the rockers, door jambs and all look great too. The firewall also shows not rust or damage, And the frame is all solid. The gas tank and fuel lines look to have been replaced.

Im trying to see my best option here. I am already working on a 68 camaro project and I bought this on a whim, because its my dream car(well close enough….71 is my favorite) Its a little more of a project then I am looking for, but I want to be smart about my choices. I can either sell now, or after I get the bonded title and maybe try to get it running and driving, and complete a little bit of the body work(not floors or rear accident, but I could have everything else on the body taken care of. What do I need to do? I want to use the money to finish restoring my camaro.
OH and it was last inspected in 02, which gives me reason to believe that mechanically and electrically it might be in pretty good shape. I payed $2500 and the guy was getting phone calls the entire time I was there from people trying to offer him more. Im in the dallas area by the way.

A: You gave too much for a damaged car with no title. You need to get one if possible. I expect it won’t be easy though as it has been resold a couple times illegally. I suggest calling the DMV for your state to see if securing a legal title is possible. A 1974 Barracuda with a 318 isn’t the most desirable vehicle. If you can bail out without spending more on it, you should be able to recover what you have invested.
